ASR Telemetry Sources
ASR uses one or more of the following telemetry sources to detect fault events on Sun hardware servers.See the ASR User Guide for information on how to configure the telemetry sources. You can access the ASR User Guide by clicking on the Documents link on the ASR home page.
| Solaris 10 Fault Management Architecture (FMA) |
Provides CPU and memory fault information from the host of some servers. |
|---|---|
| Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) |
Provides power and environmental fault information from the service processor for some servers. |
| Sun Management Center Agent (SunMC) |
Provides power and environmental fault information from the host for some servers and from the high-end server system controllers. |
| XSCF Fault Management Architecture (FMA) |
Provides power and environmental and CPU and memory fault information from the service processor (XSCF) of the SPARC 64 VI servers (M-series). |
| ILOM Fault Management |
Provides power and environmental and CPU and memory fault information from the service processor for some servers. |
Important: For ASR to function properly and provide the full set of coverage available for your system, you must configure the specified telemetry sources and adhere to the minimum software requirements and patch levels.

NOTES:
1. Using ILOM as a Telemetry Source:
- If your system is running ILOM 1.0.x, it must be upgraded to ILOM 2.0.x or later to capture telemetry on the service processor.
- You must have the ILOM on the Service Processor networked to the SASM ASR plug-in. Please refer to your Server platform documentation for instructions on how to network your Service Processor.
2. Using Solaris 10 FMA as a Telemetry Source:
- Requires Solaris 10u6 or higher.
3. Using ILOM Fault Management as a Telemetry Source for Xxx7x Servers:
- ILOM Fault Management is the primary source of fault telemetry.
- Provides fault telemetry for Solaris, Linux, and Windows servers.
4. X2270 Service Processor is a system option:
- The Service Processor is required in order to generate the ILOM Fault Management fault telemetry.
5. Using Solaris 10 FMA as a Telemetry Source for Xxx7x Servers:
- Solaris 10 FMA provides some additional fault coverage, but ILOM Fault Management is the primary source of fault telemetry.

1. Using ILOM as a Telemetry Source:
- ASR supports ILOM 3.0 on applicable systems.
2. Using Solaris 10 FMA as a Telemetry Source:
- Requires Solaris 10u3 or higher.
- If using Solaris 10u3 or 10u4, you must install the following patches:
Patch IDs 127127-11 or higher kernel patch and associated required patches, 122752-04 or higher (obsoleted by 120011-14), 123839-07 or higher (obsoleted by 126897-02), 125369-10 or higher, and 137095-01 or higher.
3. Use either ILOM or SunMC Agent as a Telemetry Source (not both):
- You should not configure both ILOM and SunMC as a telemetry source; you must choose one or the other. Sun recommends that you select ILOM as your telemetry source as it provides enhanced fault coverage for power and environmental problems.
- If you intend to use the SunMC agent as a telemetry source you must install either SunMC_3.6.1 agent with patch ID 123923-02_ or install SunMC 4.0 and the Sun Management Center 4.0 V5 Add-on software for SPARC Enterprise, Sun Fire, Sun Blade, Sun Ultra, and Netra systems. The T5440, T5240 and T5140 servers require that you install SunMC 4.0 and the Sun Management Center 4.0 V5 Add-on software for SPARC Enterprise, Sun Fire, Sun Blade, Sun Ultra, and Netra systems. Refer to the SunMC Documentation Center for more information.
